Halton Student Transportation Services (HSTS) administers student transportation on behalf of the two publicly funded English language school boards in the Region of Halton; the Halton District School Board (HDSB) and the Halton Catholic District School Board (HCDSB).
HSTS provides transportation in the most effective and efficient manner to students who are deemed eligible for transportation under their respective school boards’ Transportation Policy and the distances stated in Operating Procedure HS-1-002 – Transportation Eligibility.
Boards’ Responsibility to Provide Transportation
The Education Act states that “a Board may provide for a pupil who is enrolled in the school that the board operates, transportation to and from the school that the pupil attends.”
In accordance with the Education Act, the provision of transportation is permissive and may be revoked at the Boards’ discretion.
Operating procedures have been established in an effort to ensure that school transportation services are applied fairly and equitably to the students of both member boards that are eligible for transportation.
